TAC Certificate in India for Automobile

Type Approval Certificate (TAC) is a
certificate of conformity given to the automotive products. TAC approval is
given to the product that meet regulatory compliance, technical and safety
requirements. The products that covered under TAC categories are Automotive
electronics, Gasoline Tanks, Safety Glass, Tires, Seat belts, break houses,
lights, batteries, door locks etc.

TAC approval is applicable for importers or
dealers who purchase a product from a foreign producer, for a producer of such
product or participant in the production process or a foreign manufacturer has
its business in India and he is involved in trading activities.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways
(MORTH) is the responsible body for enforcing emission, legislation including Type
approval and production conformity. MORTH has established a standing committee
on emission, legislation implementation, chaired by the Joint secretary of MORTH,
to advise the nodal agency on such implementation, TAC approvals are awarded
for products that must meet stringent technical and safety standards.
