To ensure that the food is complying with the requirements specified, entity involved in the preparation, manufacturing, storage, transport or handling of food or food products must take registration under the FSSAI Act.

There are 3 types of FSSAI license:

1. Basic Registration
2. State License
3. Central License

Basic Registration:

This registration under FSSAI is required for petty food business operator or small scale entities with an annual turnover not exceeding Rs.12 lakhs. It takes 7 working days to get the registration.

State License:

For entities into food manufacturers, processor and transporters and having turnover more than Rs. 12 Lakhs requires FSSAI State License. Also, the entity must operate in a single state. The registration is issued for 1 to 5 years. It takes 15 working days to get the registration.

Central License:

Food business operators who are importers or operating in more than 1 state is required to get registration under FSSAI Central License. The license is to be obtained from the Central Government. It takes 30 working days to get the registration.

Thus, all types of food preparer, manufacturers, transporters, distributers, exporter, importer, wholesalers & storage keeper are required FSSAI registration in India out of any of the three mentioned.
